I’ve made some tremendous progress since the last post. When I first woke up on, Thursday the 14th, I was stuffed full with IV lines running down my neck along with my throat and a new G Tube in my stomach coming out of that port. Overall, I think I had four. I even had an NG tube in running down the back of my throat again too. I couldn’t have anything for the first several hours due to how rough surgery went. I’ve been hallucinating most of the nights I’ve been trying to sleep as well. I’m eternally grateful for teams of Mom/Dani and Kyley switching off sleeping here each night with me on the bed and then next to me on the couch. It’s been so comforting waking up and being able to reach one them and talk for a bit to know I’m safe and most of the time to hear them say “go back to bed”.
After days of not being able to go back to eating normal food, I was told I could eat again!! I was only about to eat some food such as….ice chips, Broth, pudding, and sherbet.
After several days, I was about to convince the staff to let me eat normal food. Nothing crazy though! As for me, that means normal diet! All of the Halloween candy commercials have not been helping me!
I started out nice and easy again so I wouldn’t puke everything. I eat twice a day now…. USUALLY breakfast and lunch since I’ve been waking up soooo hungry!
Breakfast is usually a panini or scrambled eggs and mid lunch / suppose is usually something along the lines of an afternoon snack stype thing.
Anyway, let’s skip past the food and to the GOOD NEWS. In talking to the doctors, I indicated that my goal in life is to get out of St Mary’s and go onto Hospice since I qualify for it. I want to find a hospital that is closer to home not only for me, but also for all my family and friends. Somewhere like Rice Lake, Spooner, etc that can take care of my IV pain meds. The care team here is amazing as they started looking around for something immediately on September 28 they found Sacred Heart in Eau Claire. While it’s the same distance from my house, it’s very close for my family. It’s closer for Mom (who HATES driving Duluth), Corbin by 100mish, Dani from Milwaukee, Kyley from Rib Lake, etc. It’s not closer for me unfortunately but for everyone else, it is. I was supposed to transfer today, Sept 30, but I couldn’t because of some interfacility issues. One of the big issues is no Ambulance wants to do the transfer because I’m dropping to a lower level of care.
Going from a Level 1 to Level 2 hospital isn’t needed in most people, they usually go the other way. So, because of this, I’d be on the hook for that cost. Which is about $9,800 – $10,500. I have some friends in the EMS world that may be able to help out on a free transfer so we shall see what happens. Because of the delay of making this work, it looks like Scared Heart gave my bed away 😩. I’m hoping for Sunday now but but with the weekends… unlikely. I’m sure it’ll be on Monday now!
At this point, although I’m frustrated I don’t get to transfer right now, we have a plan now and I’m beyond exhausted we get to transfer soon and it’ll be closer for most just about everyone (south of Spooner). As soon as the transfer is done, I’ll for sure let everyone know the new room and any new visiting hours/rules!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who has made this possible, seriously. It’s been a long process. I LOVE everyone here at St Mary’s and I can’t complain about ANYTHING here…but it’s just a location issue. If I truly have 6-12 months left, I’d like to spend it in Wisconsin and where people can easily come visit me.
I want to give such a HUGE THANK YOU TO the following people who have visited me or texted me or have just done something for me. I am SURE I have missed people but I wouldn’t be here without their help: Corbin/Nikki, Keith Dahlstrom, Emily Cerney, Heather Hughes, Jen Tavolacci, Steve Pank, Gretchen, Jason Mayer, Ben Juza, Terry Leckel, Duane Halverson, Tom Chido, Randy Cook, Darren Hodek, Kelsey Peterson, Melissa and Shane Williams, and Korynn. A big shout out to my Aunt Cindy who has been graciously watching all of my pets followed by a thank you that I can never repay no matter how many years I live to Mama Gayle, Dani, and of course…my best friend in the whole wide worldddd, Kyley Morgan ❤️❤️
